wow, what a year!

Ok, I know I have been ignoring my blog. Not cool. What can I do when I am this busy?
Anyhow, NAHBS is coming together so nice. We have exhibitors from Germany, Italy, UK, Canada and if you count Shimano, Japan. Truly an international show...and yours truly is in charge...thats almost scarey, eh?
I got married on July 29th (see pic) to Lesley...my first love from when I was just a young lad.
Great woman! She is totally everything I wanted in a wife and then some, I consider myself damn lucky (that she has no taste in men) and look forward to spending the rest of my life with her.

I have loads of frames to be built before Feb 1. Thats the official day my painter will tell me to eff off if I expect anything delivered after that day to be painted.
i am off to spend some time with Les...ciao!

Bumming...

I still am waiting for my Anvil jigs. But in the meantime have a new track frame that is shipping off to the painter tomorrow morn. This frame is for Eddie Brannan, the graphics guru from England, now in NYC. Eddie did and hopefully will do more graphics for the show. Thanks Eddie!!!! DW

a clean shop is a happy shop...and other rantings!

Been cleaning out the shop this week. I am expecting my new Anvil tools to arrive any time now. Don Ferris is a genius when it comes to designing and manufacturing Bicycle tools/Jigs, etc.
As well as being a pal, he makes the best jigs on the planet earth. I am so excited about getting these tools I am wetting myself...well, not quite, but close.
I have a bunch of frames to get done ASAP and I am already planning on next years show bikes. I have a few aces up my sleeves.
My divorce is almost final. The ex said she signed the papers the other day, but I havent heard word one from my Atty. We'll wait and see...all I can do, but this divorce has lasted longer than most peoples marriages.
Delivered a fork today. Well, I didnt deliver it, I shipped it, USPS will deliver the thing. Pic is here.
Ernesto is kicking ass on the website. I like him alot, and his work ethic. Good guy.
I have alot of info I need to get him so we can start taking deposits on next years show. My work is cut out for me, thats for damn sure.
Thats it for this addition...see you next time. DW

I'm back, Baby!

Ok, the show is over and done with. I am rested, relaxed and trying to get caught up on my framebuilding and start the never ending process of planning next years show. The good news is, we are back in San Jose at the same venue, same time of year, etc. It wont be as much work planning # 2 in SJ, but it will still take alot of time for the other parts of the show, such as seeking sponsorship, press releases, etc. Anyhow, its been a while since I posted, I just wanted to get back into the swing of this, in case anyone actually reads it. Emotions!

During the past few days, I have been a wreck. Stressed out from packing for the show and a recent thread on an unnamed forum that had my panties in a bunch. I responded like an idiot when I shouldnt have. Oh well, whats done is done. Anyhow, over the last few days my stress level has made me respond to some folks like I was an ass. Sorry for that. I am just not myself. I want those to know that I really feel bad about this. If I werent stressed out, I wouldnt have even acknowlegd the issues. I hope all is cool with everyone. DW

Track bike time

With 3 track bikes to make in a week or so, I am hauling booty. I made the fork for Eddie's track bike. It came out pretty nice. It looks like alot more cleanup than there really is. The brass flowed out nicely. I am hoping to have his done by Sat night so I can do the other two. Eddie's will be the first one with my Katakana logo...should look oh so Japanese. DW

The death of me?

Needless to say, this trike project is one gigantic learning curve. Finally have the chainstays where I think they need to be. Tacked on, so I can always remove them and reposition of need be. Thanks to Alex Mask for his patience for my learning curve.

Wow, I am honored!

My good friend Richard Sachs posted an article on his website about the "definition of a custom frame" and brought up some good points as usual. http://www.richardsachs.com/nextwave.html

The best part is he posted a short list of builders that are what he terms the "next wave" of framebuilders. Anyhow, I am honored by e-Richie including me on this short list of folks he respects the work of. Thanks e-R! DW

8 Decals left...

Heres a shot of a before and after the new Decal. Mr. Pink is the first recipient. Have fun with it Teadoggg!

Tuesday, January 17, 2006

Decals are in!

Heres the skinny.
The decals cost more to produce than originally anticipated.
You can have your very own DW Avatar decal for your headtube or seattube for a mere $4.00 postage and fondling included.
They are limited to 18, so its first come, first served.
Do NOT pm me with "you said 3 bucks", because I dont want to hear about it...I made a mistake. First time this year... ;)

Now, how to obtain them...
Paypal 4 bucks to donwalkercycles@aol.com and make sure to include your shipping address, so i send them to the right place. NO out of USA shipping! Then sit back, relax and look in your mail in about 4 days. The perfect gift idea for anyone with a fixie or dartboard. I will post when I am out of decals. Any paypal payments will be refunded when I am out. So check back here often.

Where have I been?

Running like a headless chicken, thats where.
finishing up frames that are long overdue, there too.
working on the show for countless hours. I finally got more than 6 hours of sleep last night...i got 7. woohooo.
Anyhow, big projects abound in the shop. Its time to get this fixture made for the british racing trike. It has to be precise, or else the rear end wont be in alignment.

I am excited about my website. It should be up and going here shortly, like within a couple days.

The show is shaping up very nicely. We had 3 signup on monday. Still waiting to hear back from a major component maker if they want to commit or not.
Well, its 0730, back to the salt mines....

Crikey, time is flying by

Ya know the old saying? "time flies by when you are working hard"...wow, i am fricking amazed at how true that statement really is. I spent what seemed like an hour on a bunch of phone calls for the show, and when I looked at the clock, it had been 3+ hours. Not cool. I have too much to do and so little time to do it. Even taking 15 minutes for a blog is too much of the dreaded "non production" time. Anyhow, I need to get busy here.

Someone shoot me, please!

I am so tired. I have a million things to do for the show and trying to get frames done. Oh joy.
I have to send off a few frames to the painter tomorrow. no matter what, I aint getting enough sleep.
anyhow, e-R wanted to see a new post, so this one's for him.

Ahhhh, a new year arrives

Just when you wondered if you would escape 2005 alive, 2006 shows up and so does a headcold. Yippeee. Les and I stayed up to watch the ball drop in Times square. Kissed, said happy new year and went to bed...I am so lucky she thinks like me...
slept like a log. Woke up with a sore throat and now some congestion...not the way I planned on starting the new year.
I have plenty of bikes to build, I dont need another distraction.
I will have the pics of the kids developed tomorrow. I will post them asap.
Also, I have bought back one of my frames from 95. Its a keeper, never built up, never ridden.

more soon.
